We get asked one question a lot around the shop. What's the story behind the name 6Whiskey? To us, the name is much more than a number and a spirit. It is a direct nod to family heritage, West Texas skies, and the roots that ground everything we do.
The story starts with a hobbyist glider pilot who spent his free time at flying competitions across the Lone Star State. He was a grandfather whose passion for aviation became a core part of his identity, and a permanent fixture in his family’s favorite memories.
When establishing the boutique back in 2019, our founder wanted to honor those deep family bonds and the timeless Texas traditions that shaped her. The ultimate tribute felt right at home: naming the store after her grandfather’s aviation call sign, 6W, or 6Whiskey in the phonetic alphabet.
With that, our identity was born. We set out to build a men's, women's, and lifestyle brand rooted in the qualities that define so many Texans. 6Whiskey embodies a laid-back spirit designed for the modern lifestyle, quality craftsmanship built to last through every season, and a strong sense of community and family that welcomes you at the door.
Today, we continue to honor that legacy not just through our name, but with a vintage photograph that hangs right behind our register. The photo captures Grandpa 6W alongside his wife on a Marfa airfield back in the 1960s, carefully planning his next flight path. Little did they know that decades later, a boutique inspired by that very call sign would open its doors in that exact same West Texas town before eventually making its permanent home here in the Brazos Valley.
