If you’ve spent any time with us at 6Whiskey, you know that West Texas runs deep in our DNA. One question we get asked a lot around the shop is how our years spent in Marfa helped shape who we are today. Looking back, that dusty high-desert town defined almost everything about how we build, curate, and welcome people into our space.
A Blend of Old Texas & Modern Art
Marfa is a place unlike anywhere else in the world. It is a very distinct, magnetic blend of old Texas ranching families and bold modern art scene. Over its lifetime, Marfa has worn a lot of different hats, and getting to have 6Whiskey be a small part of that ongoing story was truly something special.
When we first opened our doors out west, our storefront was set up in a much smaller space right along the main strip. Being in Marfa meant that we thrived off of the tourism, the constant ebb and flow of park hoppers, roadtrippers, and the West Texas culture curious. People were traveling into town from all corners of the globe, searching for a piece of authentic Lone Star culture to take back home with them, and we were able to provide just that.
What the High Desert Taught Us
Living, breathing, and running a business in West Texas taught us two major lessons that still guide 6Whiskey every single day:
1. Designing a West Texas Aesthetic
From a design and atmosphere perspective, we soaked up every bit of that West Texas feel, the raw wood, vintage textures, rich leather, and high-desert tones. When we eventually made our home here in the Brazos Valley, bringing that authentic West Texas feel along with us was non-negotiable. We wanted our brick-and-mortar storefront to feel like a warm, welcoming extension of that same rugged horizon.
2. Curation with Intention
From a buying perspective, serving a steady stream of travelers forced us to ask crucial questions:

How do we offer pieces that reflect our heritage, but seamlessly fit into a modern wardrobe?
We wanted our pieces to be the ones you throw on long after your trip is over, the dress or jacket where someone compliments you on the street, and you get to say, "Thanks! I got this at this cool little store out in Marfa." We didn't just want to sell clothes; we wanted to craft an experience and a lasting memory.
Bringing the West Texas Spirit Home
While we’ll always love those West Texas days, and still make the trip back often because we love being out there so much, moving 6Whiskey to College Station created a sweet spot between all of our favorite places.
Here in the Brazos Valley, we get the best of both worlds. We still enjoy that energetic tourist traffic passing through Aggieland, but now it’s paired with a strong community of local regulars who pop in week after week to say hello. It’s an authentic blend of Texas life.
Despite our location change, the core experience hasn't changed one bit from Marfa to here. We still pride ourselves on crafting a curated, high-quality experience that carries the story from the hill country to far West Texas and now to the Brazos Valley. In fact, our time in the high desert made us even more conscious of what we bring to the table and more intentional about every brand, hat, and pair of boots we curate for you.
