Styling Beyond the Basic Knot

Sometimes the smallest detail makes the biggest difference. A bandana or silk scarf can instantly elevate an outfit, and it doesn't take much to make it feel fresh. We've rounded...

A good bandana or silk wild rag isn’t just a piece of fabric, it’s really an essential part of the Lone Star Lifestyle. No matter what you're up to, the right scarf can completely transform an outfit.

At 6Whiskey, we believe the best outfits focus on simple, high-quality details. A beautiful silk twilly or a classic cotton bandana effortlessly elevates a look, but sometimes you need more than just the standard knot to really make the outfit.

So pull up a stool and let’s break down three fresh, unique ways to style your scarves this season, complete with step-by-step instructions.

1. The Twilly Necklace

Perfect for elevating a simple linen shirt, crisp white button-down, or a classic white tee.

The twilly is so much more than a skinny little piece of silk scarf. By weaving it through a chunky gold chain or a favorite beaded necklace, you can add an instant pop of color and texture, transforming standard jewelry into a stunning statement piece.

How to Style It:

Step 1: Select a chunky chain or a beaded necklace.

Step 2: Take your silk twilly and thread it through the clasped necklace at the back of your neck.

Step 3: Loop through the front of the necklace and tie into a bow or knot.

Step 4: This style can be worn straight on or off to the side.

2. The Personalized Square Knot

Best for adding a touch of tailored texture and a little bit of personality to your daily look.

The square knot is a timeless classic, but we like to give it the 6Whiskey treatment by adding a little personal touch. By introducing silver letter slides or charms before you tie it, this simple knot becomes entirely your own.

How to Style It:

Step 1: Fold your square bandana diagonally to form a clean triangle, then fold it up loosely from the point to the long edge to form a neat band.

Step 2: Before putting it around your neck, slide your chosen initials or charms onto the fabric band.

Step 3: Drape the bandana around your neck with the charms facing forward. Take the left end and loop it over two fingers twice. Then take the right tail and weave it through the first loop and over the second loop.

Step 4: Then pull the right end behind the left end back to the right side. Then go over the first loop and through the second loop. Now pull both tails tight and adjust the ends as needed.

3. The Wild Rag Rosette

For those days when you want to feel truly fabulous and make a bold statement.

When a standard knot won’t cut it, the Wild Rag Rosette brings incredible depth, texture, and western elegance to your look. With just a few twists and tucks, a silk wild rag blooms into a gorgeous, dimensional accessory.

Step 1: Lay your wild rag flat, grab opposite ends and make a small knot.

Step 2: Pick up the wild rag from the knot and put your hand through it, placing it over your wrist so that your knot is facing up and your two other tails are hanging down.

Step 3: with your other hand grab both tails of the wild rag putting them together.

Step 4: Twist the two tails together twice.

Step 5: Separate the two tails and slide the knot between them. Pull and tighten to form a rosette.

Step 6: Then adjust tails and tie around your neck with the rosette faceing forward.
